Memorial Weekend

As this weekend is our first real "Bank Holiday" weekend this year (there was Easter but we were in the UK - the other days, so far, haven't been observed by my employer - in the US its discretionary as to wether you get national holidays or not!) we decided to take a day to do somethign other than lazing around the house. Much to my horror! Anyway we decided on the San Francisco Zoo after Karina decided she wanted to go there, along with EVERY other optional day out we mentioned to her of course. Indecisive simply doesnt describe her! When we left home, north of the city, it was blazing hot, bright sun, blue sky. Before even getting to the bridge it was cloudy, foggy, cold. Stayed that way all day. It wasnt too bad really but we definately didnt dress appropriately - seemingly this is extremely common in SF - the micro-climates mean that only travelling 10 miles can change the weather dramatically. On the way back was the same - 2 minutes after crossing the bridge teh sun came out! Oh well. We had a very nice day, even though its tiring with all the walking (not to mention expensive with all the temptations for kids - cotton candy, toys etc). The zoo was packed with people but fortunately its also a really big place so we managed to never feel that it was over crowded, and everyone could take it at their own pace. We took Karina to see every animal and also she had a ride on the steam train around part of the zoo. All in all a very nice day out.
