Family sadness
This is something we'd briefly mentioned earlier in the blog, but the very sad news came to us last month that Natalies father had died in his sleep. As many of you know, he had suffered from cancer for some time and despite bouts of feeling really well and full of energy, the inevitable happened. A very very sad time for us all.'Fortunately' (though this of course depends on how you look at it) the kids didnt know him too well so that eased it a little, not having to deal with upset for all 4 of us. Of course Natalie was incredibly upset at this, even being so far away... in some ways that helps and in some ways it hinders. Either way I want to say that she handled it so well and with so much strength, I have only the highest respect for her, managing to keep it together and look after us all in such a hard time.
Her family were great too, making all the arrangements and giving a very appropriate send off for a great guy. We're told the service was really full with a lot of his old students attending (he was a university lecturer for a long time). I only had the pleasure of spending a couple of weeks with him but he made me feel welcome and part of the family, and despite being quite a quiet man from what I could see, he was passionate about everything he did and especially so about his 2 girls. He was a very intelligent man too, always looking to show anyone around teh area and chat to them about the local history of the town he lived in for most of his life, which he was obviously extremely proud of.
So I just wanted to take a moment to document this sad time but also to remember him and to send the whole family the very best wishes from us all and we only wish him to now rest in peace and he will definately not be forgotten.
